We all have a nationality.
Or almost all of us.
Status is a Fringe First-winning show about someone who doesn’t want his any more. About running away from the national story you’re given. About who’s responsible for that story and what might happen to it if you try to give it up.
Drawing on globe-spanning conversations about national identity, and incorporating songs as well as stories, Status is about running away from national identity, and whether that impulse – for those privileged enough to consider it – is a useful one, or a rejection of responsibility open only to the few.
‘…the words are eloquent, the music essential and powerful, and the performance full of brilliant, prowling precision.’ (Scotsman).
Commissioned by Battersea Arts Centre, Warwick Arts Centre and Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg.
