Written and performed by BBC Verb New Voice and Glastonbury Slam Champion Andy Craven-Griffiths, Joygernaut is a unique, spoken-word play that explores how individual acts of kindness or cruelty can echo and gain momentum over time and through multiple lives.

The play uses elements of physical theatre, comedy, and even origami to tell the story of one man chasing happiness through the pursuit of money, status, and the hand of his ex-girlfriend. As he says himself, you can’t climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets. But how selfish do you have to be in order to win?

Joygernaut incorporates eighteen months of research into the psychology, sociology and biology of kindness, along with stories of kindness gathered from across the country. It pitches acts of kindness against acts of cruelty and, in a world of increasing competition and ruthless self-interest, offers an alternative outlook on our pursuit of happiness.

“Andy will blow you away. He’s exciting and strong. A talent for the page and the stage.”
Lemn Sissay MBE

“I have admired Andy’s writing for years. This project should be seen by as many people as possible.” Inua Ellams
