Write Pride festival proudly presents Bonnie and The Bonnettes: The BonBons Cabaret!

Meet Us at the Tuck Shop which takes us back to our school discos to celebrate 90’s and 00’s culture and the naivety of youth.

Hey Mickey you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind. Hey Mickey.

You’ve crimped your hair, cleaned your heelies, and your eyeliner is think. Your mum’s ironed your new t-shirt from Tammy girl, your butterfly clips are prepped, and your flared jeans are good to go. You’re ready.

You are sliding through the school hall on your knees and your BFF’s are nailing the correct dance routine to Steps’ culturally defining hit 5,6,7,8. The DJ, usually the PE teachers brother, is churning out hit after High School Musical hit and you’re out of it on panda pop and sherbet. But nothing beats the most important part of a school disco. The tuck shop! Strawberry laces, chewits, dib dabs, sugar mice, those round chocolate balls that look like footballs, or eyes, or sprouts, or something. Freddos are only 5p. Life is good. You buy everything with the £1 your mum gave you and wait for your change. You take your next hit and return to the dancefloor, usually the school hall that smells of feet and BO. But for one night, it’s yours! And you answer the age old question: where did you come from, where did you go, where did you come from? Cotton Eye Joe?

About Bonnie and the Bonnettes:

The BonBons Cabaret started in 2017 and is an evening hosted by Bonnie and The Bonnettes with a mission to facilitate a safe platform for dangerous, queer, and alternative performance work.

Bonnie and The Bonnettes are a theatre company based in the North East (Newcastle) and their work is sometimes about them, sometimes about other people, but mostly about the world they live in. They like it when audiences laugh. They like it when they think. They really like it when they do both at the same time. They want to share stories, challenge perceptions, and have a good time whilst doing it. Their work is loud, fun, and unapologetic.
