The Ugly Duckling struggles with issues of identity, acceptance and belonging. In an all too familiar tale, our duckling is rejected and sent out into a world where it searches for hidden beauty and acceptance, discovering strength and understanding along the way… teaching us all to believe in our inner swan.
The Ugly Duckling brings together the young people of Combat Bullying (aged 6-14) to create a piece inspired by the popular tale. Over the course of two months the group has worked together to devise a piece of theatre combining the story of the famous duckling with their own experiences to create this modern retelling, with a focus on an issue that has affected people for centuries.
Nottingham Playhouse is proud to present The Ugly Duckling in collaboration with Combat Bullying, a charity that aims to provide a platform for anyone that has fallen victim to bullying past or present and find them the help and support that they need.
