We offer performances that are more relaxed for all those who benefit from a show where loud noises are reduced, elements of surprise are kept to a minimum and moving around the auditorium is not a problem.
Relaxed performances are carefully created for people with learning disabilities and their families or carers so that everyone can enjoy the wonder of theatre at Nottingham Playhouse in an environment that is comfortable and supportive. The house lights will be partially up throughout and ‘chill-out’ areas will be available before, during and after a performance. If a familiarisation visit would be helpful, we would be very happy to accommodate this.
For this production, the lighting for scenes that include integral use of flashing lights is reworked and the lighting levels throughout the performance will be higher than usual. The production also includes music that builds anticipation and excitement, for the Relaxed Performance this music will be softer. The digital projections that help create the magical world on stage will be faded out in places where the images move quickly, flash, or could be disorienting.
We are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding familiarisation visits, wheelchair access and disabled parking, all you need to do is email firstname.lastname@example.org.
CHARGE ELECTRIFYING DANCE-CIRCUS FROM MOTIONHOUSE
Inspired by the role of electricity in the human body, Motionhouse’s exhilarating multi-media show Charge is about energy. From the electrical charge that sparks human life, to the beating of our hearts and the memories we make, six performers use dance and acrobatics to delve deep into the human body, tracing the incredible story of energy in our lives.
Digital projections create a world on stage where dancers and images interact seamlessly, bringing to life stories of energy in our own bodies and humans as energy manipulators. In an exciting fusion of art and science, Motionhouse has worked with partners from the University of Oxford on the role of electricity in the human body to inspire the show.
Charge is the third element of Kevin Finnan’s ‘Earth Trilogy’, developing on themes explored in Scattered (2009) and Broken (2013) about our relationship with water and the Earth. Charge is currently touring in the UK and Europe during the company’s 30th anniversary year.
