Be a star: help young children to SHINE – Donate now
We’re continuing to raise money for our SHINE appeal to create and sustain free community youth theatres for children between 8 and 16 across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
Generous donations made by audience members mean we were able to run nine community youth theatres in Bulwell, Mansfield, Sherwood, Sneinton, Chilwell, Bramcote, Gedling Netherfield and Gedling Newstead and at the hospital school at the Queens Medical Centre. Over 120 children, who otherwise would not be able to afford to, now have the opportunity to work together to create theatre, grow in confidence, learn life-enhancing skills and discover their unique voices to tell their own stories.
This year, we have also started to offer SHINE members the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification, Arts Award, so they can be inspired to connect with the arts and leave school feeling confident, ready to embrace new challenges and become the next generation of arts leaders.
“Starting this group gave me a new opportunity to make friends, to have a social life which I previously didn’t have…Shine bought out the confidence I didn’t have, without it I wouldn’t be who I am now.” Louisa, Bulwell Youth Theatre Member, 16.
Each youth theater costs £6,000 a year to run. Every year, we aim to raise £54,000 so that young people, often with little or no experience of the performing arts, from all across the city and county can learn life-enhancing skills and enjoy an enriched and creative life. We can only do this with your help.
Please consider making a donation to the SHINE appeal – a contribution of any size will ensure we can continue with this essential work:
£25 covers the costs of a workshop assistant (who will be trained to become a workshop leader) for two sessions.
£100 buys the workshop materials needed for an entire year.
£200 funds one youth theatre workshop for up 30 young people.
All of your donation will directly contribute to SHINE.
