Homegrown

Homegrown at Nottingham Playhouse is a unique training opportunity for young theatre makers to develop and professionalise their craft.

Nonsuch and Nottingham Playhouse have created an exciting new partnership to offer 16-25 year olds the chance to undergo a year of pre-professional training from September 2019.

Both organisations will work with up to 15 participants, to develop their skills and employability in theatre-making and performance. The group at Nonsuch will be actors and performers, and the group at Nottingham Playhouse will be creatives, writers and theatre-makers.

During the year both groups will:

  • Meet on Tuesdays during term time, from 6:30 – 8:30pm.
  • Work with industry professionals.
  • Take part in skills workshops, CV surgeries, interview technique sessions and much more.
  • Focus on building skills and improving chances of employment.

Term 1 and will focus on skills building.
Term 2 will focus on growing artistry and professionalism.
Term 3 will focus on employability, culminating in both groups working together to produce the Messy Unity Festival of new work for a paying audience at Nottingham Playhouse.

Entry is through application form and an audition/interview process that will take place during the summer of 2019.

As well as development and skills building opportunities, additional benefits include:

  • access to Nonsuch’s Theatre Library.
  • discounted rehearsal space.
  • tickets to productions.
  • opportunities to shadow and observe professional rehearsals.

Participants will also be encouraged to pursue and develop skills in addition to acting, such as dance, singing, music or spoken word.
