Best Suited for GCSE and A Level Drama/ Performing Arts
Devastating secrets are set to be revealed in this gripping family drama written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Arthur Miller (Death of a Salesman, The Crucible and A View from the Bridge).
This is a play for today because of the shocking schism existing in American society which resonates with Miller’s big questions. What is our social responsibility towards each other? Who are we as a nation? The response is polarised.
“On the one hand the play has elements that are very ordinary; it’s a recognisable world to us. But because the play is dealing with questions that are bigger than just the central family, its themes are universal. A lot of writers look to Arthur Miller, as the master of this kind of drama.”
Fiona Buffini, Director of All My Sons and Associate Director of Nottingham Playhouse
MASTERCLASS WITH DIRECTOR FIONA BUFFINI
Thursday 12 October, 4:30 – 6pm
In this Masterclass, Fiona Buffini will give an insight into how, through the characters Miller has chosen and situations he has put them in, big social and political questions are explored.
The Masterclass will help students gain an understanding of the artistic choices made by Buffini and what demands a naturalistic play places on designers, actors, an audience and the director. The Masterclass will include practical demonstrations and time for students to ask Buffini questions relating to their studies.
“Masterclasses have proved to be an extremely beneficial resource for our A2 Drama students. Not only did it provide insightful and useful information in preparation for their live theatre evaluation, it has also been an invaluable point of reference for the Director’s concept for Woyzeck by Buchner. We have been able to signpost students to Fiona’s approach as a director to enhance their learning and understanding of how theatre works.”
Andrea Hemmett, Bilborough Sixth Form College
Masterclass Price: £2.50 per head (+ tickets for the show).
A Revision Session is available in March 2018 for groups that are sitting a June exam and would like a refresher of the play – free for attendees of the Masterclass.
