Nottingham Playhouse and Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall have joined forces to expand our offer for the over 55s. During the Autumn Term we have courses in Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Song Writing and more, all in a relaxed and social setting.

All courses run during term time and there are no sessions at either venue on week commencing 23 October.

Readers’ Group

A chance to explore some of the greatest plays ever written, in a friendly and sociable group. We’ll be looking at key scenes, delving into the lives of the characters and how the writer creates the setting and the plot.

Pilates

Pilates is renowned for its calming and strengthening properties, both mentally and physically. Come and join this wonderfully enriching class to gently tone, stretch and sooth.

Over the 10 week course, increase your core strength and balance as well as developing breathing and relaxation techniques. Classes are suitable for all levels of ability and experience. Pilates Instructor, Gráinne Lamb, will take you through a Pilates programme offering various levels to each exercise enabling everyone to work safely and effectively.

Creative Writing

Each session we will be using a piece of published writing as a stimulus for our own writing in class, and sharing work we create outside the sessions. There will also be opportunity to practice giving and receiving constructive feedback on copies of our work.

Mixed Media Art

Mixed Media Art is all about freedom, creative expression and experimentation. Developing your knowledge of a variety of inking, stamping, stencilling, collaging and doodling techniques, artist, Sarah Manton will help you to create a truly unique handmade art journal, filled with texture and images, connecting your inner soul with the outer world.

Creative Writing

In these sessions you will be participating in inspiring writing exercises, discussion of writing by established authors and will have an opportunity to share work in a supportive group environment. Writers of all genres and levels of experience are welcome to come along and develop new material.

Song Writing

Friday 22 September, 6 and 20 October, 3 and 17 November and 1 December (6 sessions)
10am – 12.30pm

The course will explore lyric writing, how to create melodies and harmony and how to put it all together to create new and original songs, in a supportive and creative environment. No prior musical training needed, but instrument players of any level are invited to bring their instruments with them.

Dance

Friday 22 September – Friday 1 December (10 sessions)

Our movement class combines gentle ballet and contemporary technique, in a social and friendly environment. The sessions will improve your strength, balance, fitness and memory as you rehearse routines over several sessions. No previous dance experience required.

Drama

Develop confidence and build performance skills in a fun and supportive theatrical environment. Learn acting and directing techniques through exploring classic and contemporary texts and create original pieces of theatre through a variety of devising processes and styles.

Bursaries

If you would love to be involved in 55+ but feel that you cannot meet the course fee, we have a small number of bursaries available for each group, where either all or some of the costs are met by the Playhouse. Please note this applies to courses taking place at the Nottingham Playhouse ONLY.
