Two of our co-productions with Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui and Oedipus have triumphed in the Liverpool Daily Post (LDP) awards this year.
Leanne Best who played all the women in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, including a very memorable comic sideshow barker, walked away with Best Actress. Her performance was hailed by many of the critics that came to see the play and on giving the award the LDP said that “she has proven yet again her capacity for diversity.”
Stephen Berkoff was rewarded with Best Director for his take on Sophocles’s Greek tragedy, Oedipus which played at the Playhouse in March-April this year. This highly acclaimed play was highlighted at the awards for being a ‘muscular, masculine production that bordered on choreography.’
Nottingham Playhouse’s Artistic Director, Giles Croft, commented: ‘We are delighted that two of our co-productions have been singled out by the Liverpool Daily Post in this way. Leanne’s performance was outstanding and Oedipus was a remarkable piece of theatre on many levels. We are proud to have played a key part in the success of these two shows.”
