Thousands invested in the arts in Gedling

Tuesday 31st July 2018

More than 20 young people in Gedling have benefitted from 75 hours of free youth theatres over the last 12 months, thanks to funding from Gedling Council and Gedling Homes.

A £10,000 joint grant from the two organisations to Nottingham Playhouse’s SHINE youth theatres and 50:50 ticket programme has not only enabled youngsters from low income families in the area learn new skills and build confidence at its Netherfield and Newstead youth theatres, but also covered the cost of 100 theatre tickets for Gedling Homes tenants who would otherwise not have the means to attend and enjoy the theatre, and provided opportunities for work experience and training at Nottingham Playhouse for local people to boost their CVs and their confidence.

SHINE community youth theatres were set up in 2015 and currently run in Bulwell, Sneinton and at the hospital school at the Queens Medical Centre as well as Bramcote, Chilwell, Mansfield and Netherfield.

Nottingham Playhouse’s 50:50 appeal raises money to donate tickets to local charities, community groups and schools. Find out more and how to donate to the appeals.
