On Friday 22nd December, our loyal supporter Cressida Laywood is doing a sponsored cycle ride for our SHINE.
SHINE launched in 2015 with the aim to create free community youth theatres across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, following the success of Bulwell Youth Theatre. We were successful in reaching our fundraising target thanks to many of our audience members who donated to this appeal. Currently, we have eight youth theatres running in areas such Bulwell, Mansfield and at QMC. Over 120 children now have the opportunity to work together to create theatre, grow in confidence, learn life-enhancing skills and discover their unique voices to tell their own stories.
Cressida would like to fundraise for SHINE so these youth theatres can be sustained and thrive for years to come. She says:
“Twenty five years ago, I had a brain haemorrhage which resulted in a speech and language disability (aphasia), a blind spot, and paralysis down my right side. I did at first struggle and I was becoming less mobile.
But, six years ago a friend gave me an exercise bike. Since then, on the anniversary of my haemorrhage, rather than feeling sad, I’ve done an exercise bike ride to raise money for charity.
This year, I have once again chosen to cycle to raise much needed funds for Nottingham Playhouse’s SHINE appeal to create free community youth theatres across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. This is a very important project as it makes sure that children from all across the city and county can take part in theatre and live a creative life, many of who wouldn’t be able to take part if it wasn’t for SHINE.
Cressida will be cycling for three hours between 4:15pm and 7:15pm on Friday 22nd December. Please do come along to show your support on the day.
You can sponsor Cressida to spur her on to complete the challenge here.
