Nottingham Playhouse receives award from BBC Performing Arts Fund

Thursday 5th December 2013

We are pleased to announce today that we have been awarded £5000 from the BBC Performing Arts Fund to help set up a Youth Theatre in Bulwell.

The Youth Theatre in Bulwell will be for young people aged 9 – 13. The culmination of the Youth Theatre will be a week-long rehearsal and performance period including the members touring their 30 minute production to a number of primary schools in the area.

Ours is one of many awards made by the BBC Performing Arts Fund today. This year they have awarded over £430,000 to 19 Fellows and 58 community theatre organisations. Funding has been distributed across the United Kingdom with 78% of the recipients based outside of London.

The BBC Performing Arts Fund is made possible from phone voting on The Voice and incidental revenue accumulated through telephone voting lines on other BBC entertainment programmes.

Over the course of its 10 year history, the BBC Performing Arts Fund has contributed over £4 million to the UK’s performing arts sector, through its annual awards of grants for theatre, dance and music. Funding reaches both performers at the very start of their careers and people who have not previously received support.
