Tuesday 22nd November 2016

Nottingham Playhouse will thrill with classic titles and thrum to classic rock in 2017. Our new programme features three freshly announced productions by Nottingham Playhouse Theatre Company – exclusively on sale to Playhouse Pass Members until Tuesday 29 November.

The Who’s Tommy (Wed 19 – Sat 29 Apr) began its amazing journey in 1969 as a concept album and became first a film, then a multi-award winning rock opera. In 2017 an extraordinary new production will rock the Playhouse, with 22 performers bringing to life Pete Townshend’s tale of the isolated kid who sure plays a mean pinball. We’re delighted to be co-producing this irrepressible staging with Ramps on the Moon and the New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich.

Cultures and generations clash merrily in East is East (Thu 25 May – Sat 10 Jun), the story of a Salford chip shop owner whose teenage children rebel against Pakistani tradition to embrace the opportunities of 1970s Britain. Co-produced with Northern Stage, this is a brand new production of the Olivier and BAFTA-winning comedy which celebrates the universal joy, love and chaos of family life.

And in the week that our new pantomime Aladdin takes flight, we’re pleased to announce that next year we’ll be having a ball with Cinderella (Fri 1 Dec 2017 – Sat 20 Jan 2018). Kenneth Alan Taylor’s 34th Playhouse spectacular is the classic rags to riches tale, with all the beautiful frocks, ugly antics and fairytale fun you’d expect. Quite simply, it’s the most enchanting panto of them all.

Along with other newly announced shows, these three titles are on sale exclusively to Playhouse Pass Members from Wednesday 23 until Tuesday 29 November inclusive – with a massive 25% off most performances during the priority booking week. Full listings can be found on our What’s On Page.

Already on sale, The Grapes of Wrath brings John Steinbeck’s epic of human endurance to the stage in an acclaimed adaptation by Frank Galati. Members can still save 25% across the run until 29 November.

The new shows join other spring highlights such as rock musical RENT and renowned wartime drama Touched, in which BAFTA winner Vicky McClure (This is England, Line of Duty) will be joined by Aisling Loftus (War and Peace, Mr Selfridge). Members can make great savings on those shows, too.

If you are not yet a member, you can purchase a Playhouse Pass here to take first pick of seats for our new shows now AND get up to 25% off most performances!

The full season goes on general sale at 10am on Wednesday 30 November.
