Fantastic Reviews for Romeo & Juliet

Friday 10th February 2012

Our co-production of Romeo & Juliet opened at The Nuffield, Southampton earlier this week and this hot-blooded new production of the world’s greatest love story has been well received by both critics and audiences.

Lyn Gardner from The Guardian awarded four stars and welcomed “the arrival of some thrilling young actors and an impressive new director.” She also tweeted “Young love was never quite so thrilling…A R&J to die for.”

The Public Reviews also granted the show four stars and highlighted how “the characters are painted loud and clear.”

The Stage commended the “appealing freshness and accessibility” of a production that is “tautly paced and compelling.’

Meanwhile, The Sunday Times were another to award the production four stars, stating “A play that often feels overlong races excitingly towards its climax”

And finally The Observer comments “an extraordinary show” with “Catrin Stewart’s Juliet is one of the most captivating and touching I have seen.”

Giles Croft, Artistic Director of Nottingham Playhouse, welcomed the reviews: “We are delighted that our first collaboraton with Headlong and The Nuffield, Southampton, in association with Hull Truck Theatre, has been well received. I’ve already seen it twice and I can’t wait for it to open here on 13 March as I know it will look amazing on our stage.”
