Gary Clarke Company are offering the chance for four Nottinghamshire women to join the cast of COAL when it is performed at Nottingham Playhouse on Monday 23 & Tuesday 24 May.
COAL is a new piece of dance theatre that marks the 30th Anniversary of the 1984/85 miners’ strike. With humour and grit in equal measure, COAL is an emotional, moving and relevant story of community, solidarity and survival. It is based on years of personal research by Gary Clarke, including interviews with Anne Scargill, former wife of NUM president Arthur Scargill, and Betty Cook, the founders of Women Against Pit Closures.
Gary Clarke Company is looking for females from Nottinghamshire over the age of 30 (no upper age limit) to represent the powerful women of the miners’ strike throughout the show and join dancers and musicians for a remarkable live theatre tribute to the people living in the coalfields.
Gary Clarke Company will work with everyone’s individual needs and abilities to explore a range of performance work, social dances, partner work and to make their own contribution to the story. The four women – who will receive a food and travel allowance to cover rehearsals – will perform alongside and be supported by acclaimed dance artist TC Howard.
No dance or performance experience necessary, just a willingness to take part!
