Youth Theatre workshops
Our youth theatre experiences give children and young people the opportunity to train and perform in a professional theatre environment.
During February half-term holiday, we will be running week-long workshops at Nottingham Playhouse and at the Arts in Education Centre, College Street.
The workshop week will explore the play Enron by Lucy Prebble; which will become the main stage production for the group this summer, for those who are selected.
What you will do
During the week each group will create a twenty minute piece of theatre, which they will perform at 2pm on Friday 22 February in the studio spaces.
As part of the week, Youth Theatre participants will also receive a free ticket to see Retina Dance Company perform Corporalis on Tuesday 19 Feb at 8pm and enjoy a free workshop with dancers from the company during normal session time.
“It is a truly wonderful experience”
Joe Hennessy is a former participant of our half-term Youth Theatre and has recently achieved his Gold Arts award. He says of his experience:
I loved my time at the playhouse; it has created countless opportunities for me both in the theatre and socially that have been incredibly enjoyable. I began at the playhouse when I was 13 and stayed for five years, and I think the experiences have certainly helped me grow and mature not only as a performer but as a person.
When asked what he would say to anyone that is thinking of getting involved in half-term Youth Theatre, Joe said:
I would tell everyone to get involved and give it a go; it is a truly wonderful experience that has helped me so many times over the years. When I decided to study drama at university, all the work I had done with the playhouse made up a large part of my application. Not only that but I made loads of friends and generally had an amazing time. The playhouse has been one of the biggest experiences of my life so far, so I would tell everyone to go for it- you won’t regret it!
