Access for people with learning disabilities

We offer performances that are more relaxed for all those who benefit from a show where loud noises are reduced, elements of surprise are kept to a minimum and moving around the auditorium is not a problem.

Relaxed performances are carefully created for people with learning disabilities and their families or carers so that everyone can enjoy the wonder of theatre at Nottingham Playhouse in an environment that is comfortable and supportive.

The house lights will be partially up throughout and ‘chill-out’ areas will be available before, during and after a performance. If a familiarisation visit would be helpful, we would be very happy to accommodate this.

Upcoming Relaxed Performances

Town Mouse and Country Mouse

Wednesday 20 December at 10:30am
Saturday 30 December at 1:15pm

“The country is boring. It’s mucky and the cows stink,” says Town Mouse

“The town is horrible. It’s loud and full of rubbish,” says Country Mouse

Town Mouse loves the city’s breakneck speed and all the gifts people leave him. Country Mouse prefers the wide open fields and sweet, fresh air of the countryside. They’re so different it looks like they will never get along. But when a cat arrives on the scene to gobble both mice up, can they resolve their differences before it is too late?

Lovingly adapted by Robin Kingsland (2016’s The Princess and The Frog), Town Mouse and Country Mouse is jammed full of music, fun and plenty of chances to join in. So come along for the perfect introduction to theatre for children from age of 3 and up.

Wednesday 17 January, 10:15am

A dashing prince is hosting a ball and Cinderella would give anything to go, but her stepmother and sisters have other plans. Can Cinderella escape their clutches and, with the help of her Fairy Godmother and best friend Buttons, find true love?

Our traditional family-friendly panto is “a Midlands institution” (The Guardian). Prepare to boo, hiss and cheer – oh yes you will! – in this perfect festive treat.

Our Country’s Good

Our Country’s Good is a production made in association with Ramps on the Moon.
All performances of Ramps on the Moon productions feature a creative use of British Sign Language interpretation, captioning and audio description.
