CLLR CAT ARNOLD
Cllr Cat Arnold is Nottingham City Councillor for Basford (Labour) and has been a councillor for 9 years. Cat has been a member of the Playhouse board and wider board since 2008.
Cat is also a published writer specialising in popular history about the dark side of London life. Cat read English at Cambridge and holds a further degree in psychology. She is a trained journalist who spent four years as a feature writer on the Nottingham Post. Cat also sits on the board of Nottingham City of Literature and the Galleries of Justice.
CLLR STEVE BATTLEMUCH
Steve Battlemuch is a Labour Councillor for Wollaton West on Nottingham City Council. He has been a Trustee since June 2015.
Steve works for the civil service trade union PCS. Previously he worked in the civil service and also for Oxfam. He has particular interests in comedy and contemporary drama and has 2 teenage sons, one is which is an aspiring actor. He spends what spare time he has watching Forest lose and reruns of the West Wing.
Andy is a Chartered Accountant and works as a Director at PwC (having given up hope of becoming an actor 20 years ago, due to a love of theatre that far outweighed his talent). He came to University in Nottingham and has largely stayed here – with stints of time working in London, California and Connecticut. He is a regular theatre goer, both locally and in London.
David Belbin is the author of numerous novels, including two crime sequences set in Nottingham, The Beat, eleven novels for teenagers, and three – to date – Bone and Cane novels, for adults. His work has been translated into thirty languages. Provenance, his collected short stories, were published in 2016. He lectures part-time at Nottingham Trent University and has a PhD by publication. A Playhouse trustee since 2012, he led Nottingham’s successful bid to become a UNESCO City of Literature and continues to chair the company set up to run the City of Literature.
David is a Director of BON Culture and Director of the Family Arts Campaign (the UK’s biggest ever audience development initiative). He has been in leadership roles in the UK cultural sector for over two decades. His career began in marketing and fundraising positions for arts centres, festivals and theatres and he worked for organisations including the Royal Court Theatre, Greenwich + Docklands International Festival and Ambassador Theatre Group, as well as in London’s West End.
He moved on to strategic roles in Local Government before becoming Arts Council England’s national Director of Strategic Partnerships and then Director of Public Engagement. He went on to become Chief Executive of Audiences UK and then Executive Director of the UK Theatre Association. As a researcher and data analyst, he currently co-authors the British Theatre Repertoire Report and the National Campaign for the Arts’ annual Arts Index. He is a regular contributor to the UK’s leading weekly arts journal, The Stage.
Tim is a Trustee of the Playhouse and Chair of the Nottingham Playhouse Trading Company. The Trading Company used to be responsible for CAST restaurant and is now the client for the catering concession.
Tim is a town planner by profession but since the mid – 1980s worked in culture in the Midlands and nationally. He worked for East Midlands Arts and the Arts Council of Great Britain, where he co-wrote a national strategy for the arts. He was head of the Leisure and Cultural Services of Nottinghamshire County Council and the Culture, Leisure and Lifelong Learning Services of Walsall Metropolitan Council. Whilst at Nottinghamshire he was an observer on the Nottingham Playhouse board and he has been on a number of national and regional cultural committees.
Tim is also chair of City Arts, Nottingham and of the arts charity, Cultivate. He is a director of the Ashbourne Festival and member of the Academy of Urbanism. Most importantly, Tim loves the theatre and live performance and believes in the value of the arts to people’s lives and society as a whole.
Harvey Goodman has been associated with the Playhouse for many years and is currently vice chair of the board of trustees. His working life has been spent in financial services, and he has a keen interest in all things theatrical. He recently completed a masters degree in broadcast journalism.
Sofia Nazar-Chadwick is the Lead Marketing Manager for Membership Acquisition and Supporter Recruitment at the Woodland Trust. Prior to making the move into the third sector she had over 30 years experience in the cultural sector. She was Head of Audience Development & Marketing at Nottingham Lakeside Arts and prior to that Head of Marketing at Broadway Media Centre.
Sofia was a Director of Ticketing Network East Midlands, on the board of Retina Dance Company and a BBC Audience Panel member for the East Midlands.
Sofia’s experience includes strategic marketing, communications and audience development PR, donor acquisition and fundraising/brand & reputation guardian/press and media liaison. She has lead on the implementation and development of Tessitura, Ticketing and CRM system and is now working in the third sector, fundraising for an environmental charity with a particular focus on memberships and donor recruitment.
Sofia is a regular arts attender, gardener, Game of Thrones fan and Candy Crush obsessive!
CAROLINE SHUTTER (CHAIR)
Caroline’s day job involves strategic marketing and business development for locally based Bedrock Tax whilst she also works as a consultant. Current clients include Cambridge Science Park, Social & Local and Food Standards Agency. She’s well connected into the region’s business sector having previously been the Communications & Marketing Director for the East Midlands Development Agency and Head of Corporate Affairs at Nottingham City Council. She’s been on the Board of Dance 4 and Ticketing Network East Midlands. She joined the Playhouse’s Board in 2014 becoming Chair in late 2015.
Paul Southby is a partner at law firm Geldards LLP and Chairman of Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, the place marketing organisation for the city and county. This organisation incorporates the inward investment agency Invest in Nottingham, the visitor economy and tourism agency Experience Nottinghamshire, and Nottingham Means Business, which coordinates business support for the place marketing project.
Michelle Vacciana is an artist – making work in the mediums of theatre, lens-based media and music. Artistic projects often have a community focus or an aspect of documentary. She also works consistently as an educational practitioner – mainly at KS3 & KS4 facilitating Drama and Film-making workshops.
