Annual Review 2018/19


It’s been another incredible year for Nottingham Playhouse, both on and off stage. We continued to engage, delight and entertain audiences here in Nottingham as well as around the country through our productions and participation work. It’s been a memorable year full of exciting announcements and crucial moments in our history. As we entered our 70th Anniversary year we said goodbye to our Artistic Director of 18 years, Giles Croft, welcoming Adam Penford to Nottingham Playhouse in Autumn 2017 for his first season.


In a year of significant milestones for Nottingham Playhouse, we reached more people, made even stronger connections and provided greater access to our work than ever before. We smashed Box Office records, celebrated the first stage hit as part of our collaboration with Ramps on the Moon and toured the country with Nottingham Playhouse productions – even to the Houses of Parliament. Nottingham Playhouse has published its annual review for 2015-16. Over the financial year Nottingham Playhouse achieved some notable successes and extraordinary achievements, not only in terms of its productions, but finances, audience numbers and community engagement. Achievements included:

  • A 22% increase in first time attendees to Nottingham Playhouse productions
  • 1,900 Pay What You Can tickets sold
  • 430 young people performed onstage in our ‘Schools Massive’ project
  • Nottingham Playhouse productions hit the road reaching a diverse range of audiences across the UK, including Beautiful Thing, Tony’s Last Tape, 1984,The Rubenstein Kiss, Wave and All the Little Lights.
