At Nottingham Playhouse we make bold and thrilling theatre. It is world-class, made in Nottingham and as diverse as our community.
Awarded Regional Theatre of the Year 2019 by The Stage, Nottingham Playhouse is a leading UK producing theatre. Since 1948, we have been creating bold and imaginative productions: timeless classics, enthralling family shows and adventurous new commissions.
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Adam Penford and Chief Executive Stephanie Sirr, notable recent productions include: the widely acclaimed The Madness of George III, which starred Mark Gatiss and Adrian Scarborough, and was broadcast in cinemas around the globe as part of National Theatre Live; a production of Coram Boy, featuring up to 100 community and professional performers; Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s updated version of the Ibsen classic An Enemy of the People, starring Alex Kingston; and The Kite Runner, which has had major success in the West End and three national tours.
Highlights for 2020 include: a brand new production of Private Peaceful, based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo; Pam Gems’ emotionally-charged Piaf starring Olivier Award-winner Jenna Russell; and the world premiere of First Touch, a gripping drama about a young footballer written by rising screenwriter Nathaniel Price (BBC’s Noughts and Crosses and Sky’s Tin Star).
Nottingham Playhouse believes theatre should be accessible to all, and runs wide-reaching participation schemes, youth theatres and its Amplify programme – which seeks to inspire and support theatre-makers from the East Midlands.
