This event is part of World Event Young Artists 2012 (WEYA) and is the very first event of its kind. WEYA will showcase a selection of the best creative talent from across the globe, bringing 1000 artists aged 18 to 30 together in one city – Nottingham.

During this informal, discursive talk, Michael and Hetain will approach the idea of ‘dramaturgy as the architecture of performance’ – a notion employed within the text Dramaturgy and Performance by Cathy Turner and Synne Berhndt.

Examining the ‘architecture’ of their current projects, Michael and Hetain will consider how they have worked with one another as dramaturgs on each other’s work, and the roles that they have inhabited during the process of its construction as the basis for this discussion.

Michael Pinchbeck is a writer, live artist and performance maker based in Nottingham. He co-founded Metro-Boulot-Dodo in 1997 after studying Theatre and Creative Writing at Lancaster University. Michael was previously selected by Arts Council England to represent the UK at the Biennale for Young Artists in Italy, and his work has also been selected for the British Council’s prestigious Edinburgh Showcase. He has a Masters in Performance and Live Art from Nottingham Trent University and was a senior lecturer at the University of Chester. He is currently undertaking a PhD at Loughborough University exploring the role of the dramaturg in contemporary performance. Michael is a co-director and curator of Hatch, the East Midlands performance platform.

Hetain Patel is an artist with a conceptually driven practice, utilising photography, video and live performance to consider how identity forms through the use of language and physical movement. He is a Fine Art graduate of Nottingham Trent University, and has performed and exhibited internationally, most recently performing Me and Me Dad and Me Wife in The Tanks at Tate Modern. Hetain is represented by Chatterjee & Lal, Mumbai, India, and is a New Wave Associate Artist at Sadlers Wells, London. Hetain currently lives and works in Nottingham and London.
