This event is part of World Event Young Artists 2012 (WEYA) and is the very first event of its kind. WEYA will showcase a selection of the best creative talent from across the globe, bringing 1000 artists aged 18 to 30 together in one city – Nottingham.

Protest and performance are finding increasingly elaborate and interrelated ways in which to transform the streets of our cities. In these streets, the spirit and soul of the city and the country beyond it is performed and disputed. Andy wants to spend some time thinking about how we act on streets, in art and in protest. He wants to consider the politics of territory, ownership and occupation, to ask difficult questions about the assumptions and the blind spots in the actions we carry out and to explore if we can’t bring performance and protest together to create more imaginative and radical ways of transforming this complicated urban landscape.

Andy Field is an artist, writer, part-time curator, sometime academic and occasional polemicist-for-hire who lives in Bristol. For the last five years he has been Co-Director of Forest Fringe with Deborah Pearson. Forest Fringe is an artist-led organisation making space for risk and experimentation at the Edinburgh Festival and beyond. Forest Fringe’s innovative community-led approach to supporting and collaborating with artists has allowed it to become a home to some of the country’s most exciting and radical new performance work. In addition to this, Andy is Associate Artist Producer at Arnolfini Gallery, where he is developing a major new collaborative project for June 2013.

Andy is also an artist in his own right, creating unusual interactive projects for a range of contexts. His writing on performance has been included in numerous publications including the Guardian, This is Tomorrow, The Stage and Contemporary Theatre Review. Andy has recently completed a PhD exploring the relationship between contemporary performance practice and the New York avant-gardes of the 1960s and 1970s.
