Part of our Readings Series
Making a welcome return to Nottingham Playhouse, following the popularity of its first reading, is Michael Pinchbeck’s new play The Ashes directed by Giles Croft.
When legendary Australian batsman Donald Bradman notched up over 1000 runs for his team and returned home bearing The Ashes, England was determined to avenge the defeat. By the time the England team set sail for Australia two years later, under the captaincy of Douglas Jardine, a new line of bowling attack had been devised – Bodyline.
Jardine chose Harold Larwood, a coal miner from Nottinghamshire for the job and as a result of this new bowling technique, England were victorious– but at what cost? Politicians took their stand and Jardine and Larwood became the two most hated men in Australia.
Tickets FREE but must be booked in advance by calling Box Office on 0115 941 9419.
