Oliver Goldsmith’s 18th century comedy with larger than life characters, big laughs and even bigger frocks!
A wealthy country squire arranges a meeting between his beautiful daughter, Kate and the son of an aristocrat, Charles Marlow – hoping the pair will marry. Unfortunately, whilst the privileged Marlow is at ease with ladies of a lower social standing, he becomes flustered with those of his own class. Determined to overcome the obstacles and win his affections by any means necessary, Kate poses as a barmaid in order to succeed.
Director Lucy Pitman-Wallace makes a welcome return to Nottingham Playhouse following her previous productions The Burial at Thebes and Macbeth.

Reviews
It’s a jolly good start to the season and should be a good antidote to the back to work feeling after the holidays. Go and enjoy a fun evening out.

…an excellent opener to the Playhouse’s new season.

She Stoops to Conquer is an imaginative, humorous and often thought provoking production.

Edmund Kingsley’s Marlow combines the bearing of a Roman emperor with the behaviour of a scoundrel, and there is much diversion to be found in witnessing his comeuppance at the hands of Ellie Beaven’s sprightly, mischievous Kate.

We saw the show last night (Saturday 4th Sept). It was a complete joy from start to finish!

Very enjoyable! I thought this was a brilliant production - the original play is faithfully preserved, with Goldsmith's language spoken beautifully clearly, but there are some lovely postmodernist touches in the staging.
