Mouthy Poets

The Mouthy Poets are an open collective of young people who create, command and coordinate their words, voice and career through writing, performance and event production.

In residence at Nottingham Playhouse, Mouthy create energising first-class shows and education programs in theatres, festivals, schools, universities and living rooms! Their poetry often collaborates with all types of entertainment: music, visual art, film and dance to name a few.

Ultimately, Mouthy is about empowering young people to challenge, speak and work hard and, as a result, is owned by the poets, lyricists, songwriters and storymakers within it. If you’re aged 15-30 and have an interest in the spoken word then Mouthy Poets is the place for you!

Sessions take place every Friday 5-8pm during the academic year at the Playhouse and cost £3 per session. Bursaries are available for those who may find cost a barrier to taking part.

The collective is generally open to new members at the beginning of October. If you are interested in taking part, please email to express your interest.

some feedback from mouth poet sessions

I am privileged at being in a community such as The Mouthy Poets and have artists surrounding me who will enable me to constantly offer roles such as the one I undertook in this project.

Jim Hall, A Mouthy Poet

In terms of my writing it’s all changed. This builds my confidence completely.

Jei, A Mouthy Poet

Sometimes I’m not very nice just because I feel bad about some things that have happened. But here I feel like I’m accepted.

Did you see that though – I was on fire.
