Nottingham Playhouse is renowned for our Panto, and this year is no different! Have you read the reviews for our current show Aladdin yet? We’re a class act, and the perfect post-Christmas treat. With shows running into the new year, banish those January blues and treat your loved ones to a bit of glitter and sparkle. You can also buy tickets for next year’s panto, Cinderella.
The wonderful mash-up of of music and theatre is a joyous experience, and we’ve got some great shows coming up in 2017 for those who love a singalong! First up, in January, Broadway and West End star Ramin Karimloo will be here with his Broadgrass Band. Ramin is a bona fide star of the stage, nominated for Olivier and Tony Awards for his roles in Love Never Dies and Les Misérables. The musical aficionados in your life will instantly recognize the hits as he sings Bring Him Home, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables and Music of the Night.
For the full-on musical experience, we’ve got two classics for the new year: the pinball wizard will be in residence for The Who’s Tommy, and in its 20th Anniversary year the runaway smash-hit Rent will have them dancing in the aisles – perfect for any stage school dreamers!
We could all do with a good laugh every now and again, and we’ve got just the thing for that – some of the best comedians in the business will be gracing the Playhouse stage in 2017. Got a friend with a twisted sense of humour who loves comedy with bite? Try Richard Herring, Stewart Lee or Reginald D Hunter.
Like a dose of musical whimsy and some Irish charm to boot? David O’Doherty will be here in February. Love comedy panel shows? Mock the Week regular Andy Parsons will be stopping off on his UK tour. And for those who know laughter is the best medicine, check out Ruby Wax – she’ll be getting funny and insightful about mental health in her new show, Frazzled.
It’s a bumper year for beautiful dance shows that are destined to make you gasp at how graceful and incredible the human body is. Motionhouse, known for amazing digital projections that their dancers interact seamlessly with, will present Scattered. Then the all-male dance superstars BalletBoyz will be here with their new show Life. The perfect present for someone who wants to be surprised and delighted this Christmas. A play by a Nottingham writer, set in our city, starring some of our finest actors will kick off the new season.
