by Presley Chweneyagae and Paul Grootboom

Hard-hitting drama from South Africa

Starring Starring Zenzo Ngqobe form the Oscar-winning film Tsotsi
Rated 18
Township Stories
Tuesday 12 – Saturday 16 September

A serial killer on the loose. Another brutal murder. Rocky is on the case. This is no ordinary story. Young girls drink, have sex and sometimes go church. Young men drink, have sex and sometimes are abused. Welcome the violent world of Township Stories, where life is cheap and you need a strong stomach to deal with the consequences.

This is shocking and exhilarating Tarantino-style drama in post-apartheid South Africa, performed by a remarkable 16 strong company and created by Paul Grootboom, one of South Africa's hottest playwrights, and co-writer Tsotsi star Presley Chweneyagae. A soundscape including tracks from Nora Jones, Louis Armstrong, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Tracy Chapman, R Kelly, plus traditional music heightens the tension in a must-see show that doesn't hold back the punches.

“Passionate, bizarre, funny and moralistic...sprawls between romance, horror and pathos. It's Hogarth in motion, Peter Greenaway on stage”

Sunday Independent (South Africa)

This production includes strong language, violence and scenes of an explicitly sexual and disturbing nature.
