A gripping genre-hopping psychological thriller.

Vertigo sufferer Roger Flavieres is an ex-policeman consumed with guilt after causing the death of a colleague. He agrees to shadow the beautiful wife of an old friend and is instantly plunged into a frightening labyrinth of danger and desire. Utterly bewitched by Madeleine, Roger’s fragile sanity is destroyed by her suicide.

Five years pass. Then an innocent trip to the cinema again shatters him when Madeleine appears on screen, staring out of the flickering image of that day’s newsreel.

Jonathan Holloway rediscovers the original novel from which Hitchcock fashioned his classic psychological drama. The result is a wonderful stage thriller and a scorching dissection of obsession and madness.

Playwright Jonathan Holloway is a director and playwright with a substantial record of work at the innovative end of UK theatre. He founded Red Shift in 1982 and has directed all but one of the company's sixty plus shows. Jonathan is committed to making interdisciplinary work that marries intellectual rigor, theatrical invention and entertainment. Scripts for Red Shift include In the Image of the Beast (Edinburgh Fringe First, 1987), Death in Venice, Crime and Punishment, Les Miserables, Nosferatu The Visitor, Nicholas Nickleby, The Man Who Was Thursday, the first stage versions of Mort D'arthur, The Third Man, Get Carter and Vertigo.
