No other dance company places such an emphasis on the importance of music and the deep magic it can conjure together with dance. The result, as growing audiences all over the country affirm, is an unrivalled pleasure that carries all before it. Included in the company's programme is Richard Alston's latest hit, Blow Over, racing along to the exhilarating pulse of Songs From Liquid Days by Philip Glass, with lyrics by Suzanne Vega and Paul Simon.
Also in the programme, a revival of Richard Alston's iconic Movements from Petrushka, set to Stravinsky's own piano arrangement of his music - played live on stage by the virtuoso pianist Jason Ridgway.
Martin Lawrance's upbeat To Dance and Skylark is performed to two of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos.
‘Still dazzling after all these years' Independent on Sunday
‘Hot sparkles and powerfully massed ensembles' The Guardian
Richard Alston will give a free pre-performance talk at 6.30pm on Thursday 14 May
The Essential Alston programme offers bespoke workshops to schools, colleges, and community groups studying dance. The workshops aim to give students a flavour of the technical and choreographic style of RADC, and to provide a more informed way of appreciating the professional work when seen in performance. As you may be aware, the company are on the AQA GCSE Dance 2009/2012 specification, so this is also a great opportunity for students studying, or hoping to study GCSE Dance. They can be arranged at a date and venue to suit you – this need not necessarily be the same date as the performance – and they are delivered according to the age & experience of the participants.
