MARKETING OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Responsible to:                  Head of Marketing and Communications

 

Job Purpose:                      To promote the work of Nottingham Playhouse to the widest possible audience in order to maximise attendance and income and create customer satisfaction.

Duties

 

Direct Marketing

  • To plan, lead, report on and evaluate marketing campaigns
  • To agree and monitor budgets for all marketing campaigns in liaison with the Head Of Marketing and Communications
  • To schedule, write and edit copy and organise the design, print and distribution of publicity material for all the activities of Nottingham Playhouse in conjunction with the Head of Marketing and Communications
  • To initiate direct mail campaigns and write direct mail material
  • To liaise with visiting companies in the organisation of marketing campaigns for visiting productions
  • To market the work of the Roundabout and Education department and the BRIT (Black Regional Theatre Initiative), producing print, supervising mailings and liaising with the Director of Roundabout and Education, the Customer Services Manager, the Box Office Supervisor (Group Bookings) and other relevant personnel with regard to marketing education and outreach work
  • To edit and design newsletters, leaflets and e flyers and coordinate print production
  • To manage a clean and effective database for the distribution purposes
  • To coordinate the production of print in large print, Braille, audio and video tapes and to market Nottingham Playhouse’s access programme

 Monitoring, Evaluation and Audience Development

  • To produce reports on all activities as agreed in conjunction with the Head of Marketing and Communications and monitor the progress of all campaigns and new initiatives
  • To develop and implement strategies for achieving and maintaining audience loyalty and monitoring these strategies
  • To initiate and organise specific promotional activities including external events
  • To initiate and participate in audience research projects (attenders, non-attenders and identifying new audiences) in collaboration with Head of Marketing and Communications

 IT

  • To keep abreast of developments in IT and using these as appropriate within the department’s marketing strategy including updating Nottingham Playhouse’s website as appropriate
  • To develop and deliver an effective e-marketing strategy

 General Marketing

  • To be responsible for accurate record keeping in all areas
  • To contribute to the formulation of Nottingham Playhouse’s marketing and development strategy
  • To participate in marketing planning as a member of the Marketing Team and attend marketing meetings
  • To attend press nights, business cultivations events and other PR events where appropriate

 General

  • To always act in the best interests of Nottingham Playhouse
  • To take positive action to promote Equal Opportunities in all aspects of the work of Nottingham Playhouse
  • To agree to abide by Nottingham Playhouse policies such as Health and Safety, child protection etc
  • To maintain confidentiality in all areas relating to Nottingham Playhouse

 MARKETING OFFICER PERSON SPECIFICATION

  

Essential Criteria

  • A minimum of two year’s experience in an arts marketing environment
  • Experience of working with printers and designers and involvement in the production of print
  • Working knowledge of Desk Top Publishing packages (Quark Xpress) and Photoshop
  • Experience of marketing campaigns in an arts context
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral
  • Good keyboard and IT skills including knowledge of new media and Web 2.0 (podcasts and  blogging)
  • The ability to work within budgetary limits and to tight deadlines
  • Experience of writing copy for print and direct mail
  • Creative flair and a good visual sense
  • The ability to prioritise effectively
  • Enthusiasm, energy and stamina
  • Organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A flexible approach to work and the ability to work to deadlines and under pressure
  • Knowledge of the theatre and the arts
  • Interest in and commitment to making theatre accessible to all community sectors, and to Nottingham Playhouse’s Equal Opportunities Policy
  • A good commercial sense
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • An understanding of the principles of strategic marketing

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Possession of a full clean driving licence
  • Experience of liaising with the media
  • Experience of managing market research projects
  • Local knowledge of Nottingham and the East Midlands
  • An interest in self-development
  • An interest in developments in arts marketing practice
  • Experience of using computerised Box Office systems in particular Databox

 MARKETING OFFICER TERMS AND CONDITIONS

 

 Salary:                        £ 18,600 pa

                                    Payable monthly in arrears by credit transfer

 

Hours:                         37.5 hours per week. Monday to Friday. One hour for lunch.

                                    Normal office hours 9.30am – 5.30pm

                                   

Overtime:                  No overtime is payable. Reasonable time off in lieu may given for authorised extra hours with the permission of the Head of Marketing and Communication

 

Probation Period:     6 months

 

Place of work:            Nottingham Playhouse

 

Holiday:                      4.8 weeks pa. Entitlement increases in line with the BECTU/TMA agreement and House agreement. The Holiday year runs 1

September – 31 August

 

Other Absences:       In line with the BECTU/TMA agreement and House agreement (eg illness, maternity)
